Esta actividad ancestral aún se practica en Maní, especialmente para fines medicinales. En el municipio se cuentan alrededor de 30 meliponarios de los que se extrae la miel con propiedades curativas y se le valora como complemento alimenticio. La importancia de estos antófilos para la comunidad es vital, por ello les realizan ceremonias rituales como el “U Jaanli kab” (la comida de las abejas), y el “U jeets luumil kab” (las condiciones ideales para la producción de miel), con el fin de favorecer el buen tiempo y las buenas floraciones del campo y para la siguiente temporada de cosecha de miel.
